RIVER FALLS, Wis. - After enjoying the past weekend off, No. 16 Gustavus volleyball returned to play Tuesday night at UW-River Falls and fell 3-1, dropping to 14-4 overall.
The Falcons took the first three points of the opening set and never looked back in a 25-20 win. Gustavus answered in the second with a 25-20 victory of its own after
Lauren Klaith tallied six kills in the frame. The Gusties erased a 6-1 deficit, eventually gaining a 19-18 lead and held on for the win.
Gustavus had the early advantage in the third set, maintaining a one-to-four point lead until the Falcons went on a late 8-4 run for their first lead at 20-19 and then claimed five of the last eight rallies for a 2-1 lead in the match.
After trailing 3-1 to start the fourth, the Gusties strung together an 11-1 spree for a comfortable 12-4 advantage. River Falls was quick to respond, going on a 13-3 run for a 17-15 lead. The Gusties got within one point three more times but was unable to recover in a 25-23 loss.
Klaith finished with a team-high 18 kills followed by
Marlee Turn with 14.
Kasie Tweet distributed 39 assists, while
Maren Sundberg had 20 digs.
Gustavus was limited to a .108 hitting percentage and had 32 attack errors.
The Gusties travel to St. Scholastica Friday night for a MIAC match in Duluth, Minn.
