SAINT PETER, Minn. — The Gustavus swimming and diving team hosted the Grace Goblirsch Invite Saturday, and came away with a pair of wins in their home meet. Hosting Macalester, Saint Benedict, Morningside, and Saint John's, the Gustie men won with a score of 1214.5, 315.5 more than the second place Johnnies, while the Gustie women took first with a score of 1298.
The Gustie men won 11 of 18 events, led by
Peyton Richardson, who posted three individual wins and was a part of two winning Gustie relays. Richardson won the 100 backstroke in 53.39, the 400 IM in 4:15.89, and the 200 IM in 1:59.53. Richardson, joined by
Matt Strom and both Ripken brothers took first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.47. The Gusties also touched the wall first in the 400 free relay (3:10.99), along with Strom,
Kieran Ripken, and
Logan Cyr.
Matt Strom also posted a duo of wins for the Gusties in the 200 free (1:45.17) and 200 backstroke (2:01.11).
Kieran Ripken posted a win for the Gusties in the 50 free, finishing in 21.72. Ripken was joined by
Jack Christoferson, his brother Braden, and Cyr in the 200 free relay, finishing first in 1:27.42.
Brandon Wilcek and
Jonathan Cordano also added wins for the Gusties, as Wilcek took first in the 200 breast in 2:14.24 and Corano won the 100 fly in 53.49.
The Gustie women won seven of 18 events, and placed second in five events. The duo of
Emmalyn Dickerson and
Kaija Pratt swept the diving competition for the Gusties, as Dickerson won the 3-meter with a score of 239.70 and Pratt the 1-meter with a score of 239.20.
Lucy Peterson had a hand in five different Gustie wins, placing first in the 50 free (24.21) and 100 free (54.53), and was a part of three winning relay teams. Peterson,
Mikayla Witte,
Macey Whitlock, and
Lindsay Sundby won the 200 medley relay in 1:51.83. The combination of
Stella Anderson Moye, Peterson,
Chelsy Johnson, and
Olivia Koeneman won the 200 free relay in 1:38.96, while Witte, Anderson Moye, Peterson, and Koeneman took first in the 400 free relay in 3:42.12.
The Gusties are off for the holiday break before heading to the Grinnell Pioneer Classic Dec. 1 and 2.
