SAINT PETER, Minn. - The Gustavus gymnastics team hosted its home opener Friday night at the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio against UW-Eau Claire and made a big improvement from the previous week. The Gusties posted 183.825 team score, which is more than four points higher than their first meet. The Blugolds won the WIAC dual with a score of 188.050.
"It felt great to be back at home," Head Coach
Aryn DeGrood said. "The team had awesome energy and that showed in our performance with improvements on every event. It wasn't the complete meet we wanted but it sure felt good to see that 4.5 point score jump. I am so proud of the fight and determination I saw tonight. They responded to our challenge after last week and have us on the right track."Â
Marley Michaud and
Lili Guy each posted second place finishes for the top performances of the night for the Gusties. Michaud was credited with a 9.675 on the floor, while Guy scored a 9.45 on the vault. Willis and Michaud tied for fourth on the vault with scores of 9.325.Â
Maddox Lee was the top Gustie performer on the bars, finishing fourth with a 9.275.
Olivia Jahnke scored a 9.225 on the beam, taking seventh place.Â
Gustavus next travels to California over touring week for a meet at UC-Davis on Jan. 29.Â
