NORTHFIELD, Minn. - No. 6 Gustavus women's basketball completed the series sweep over St. Olaf on Wednesday night with a decisive 73-41 victory on the road, improving to 15-1 overall and 11-0 in the MIAC.
Rachel Kawiecki started the game with a jumper on the opening possession and the Gusties led soup to nuts. A fast break layup by
Syd Hauger in the final minute of the first quarter gave the visitors a 22-12 advantage, their largest of the frame.
St. Olaf went on an 11-3 run from the end of the first and three minutes into the second, cutting the difference to two points, but the Gusties answered by ending the first half with 15 unanswered points, shooting 6-for-7 in that span, for a 42-25 advantage at the break.
Gustavus rolled its momentum into the second half, outscoring the Oles 19-6 in the third quarter, and then Coach Kelly was able to clear her bench in the fourth quarter with all 15 dressed players getting at least four minutes on the floor.
Kawiecki led the offense on 9-of-18 shooting for 19 points, including six rebounds and three steals. Hauger was next with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Izzy Quick led the team with eight rebounds while
Emma Kniefel added eight points, seven steals, and three assists. The Gusties shot 40.8 percent from the floor and limited the Oles to 35.7 percent.
Next up for the Gusties is a home game Saturday afternoon against St. Catherine.
