LEXINGTON, Ky. – Gustavus volleyball fifth-year setter
Kasie Tweet (Adrian, Minn.) has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Player of the Week on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Tweet had a career weekend in two MIAC sweeps for the Gustie volleyball team, most notably setting the program's all-time assist record Saturday against Bethel. Tweet started the weekend with a 44-assist performance against Augsburg, directing a Gustie attack that hit .377. She added a pair of set-over kills in the victory, as well as a service ace and eight digs. She was even more impressive on Saturday, compiling a dominant stat line of 37 assists, six kills, a .750 attacking efficiency, four aces, eight digs, and two blocks.
Her 37 assists Saturday helped her pass three-time All-American Nora Holtan '19 for the program record, now with 4,541 in her career and 1,001 this season, marking the fourth year in a row she has eclipsed the 1,000-assist mark. Her six kills against Bethel are a career high for the setter, while her 44 assists on Friday marked the 11th time this season she's collected more than 40 in a match. She currently sits first in the conference for assists per set with 10.76, a mark that ranks sixth in all of NCAA DIII, while her career total 4,541 assists puts her second in Division III active career leaders and 13th among all collegiate volleyball players (any division).
Tweet has directed one of the best offenses in the country, as the Gusties rank fifth in NCAA Division III with 13.91 kills per set, 17th in team attacks per set (39.10), and 20th in team hitting percentage (0.243). Thanks to Tweet, the Gusties also rank 11th in team assists per set (12.67) and 18th in total team assists (1,216).
Tweet's national weekly honor is the second of her career, and just the third all-time for the program. Nora Holtan received the program's first honor on Oct. 23, 2018, while Tweet was awarded the distinction once last season on Oct. 22, 2023. She is the 16th player in all-time MIAC history to be named the National Player of the Week, and the only among current conference teams to have won the award twice in her career.
The Gusties have just one conference match remaining in their season, hosting St. Catherine (19-7, 9-1 MIAC) Saturday for Senior Night and a chance at another undefeated MIAC season and the outright regular season title.
