Game one began with four complete scoreless innings between the two teams, until St. Scholastica scored two off
Maizie Anderson in the bottom of the fifth. The Saints went up 2-0 off an RBI double and single for the first lead of the game.
The Gusties waited until the top of the seventh for their response, and delivered it in convincing fashion.
Lauren Lambert led the inning off with a walk to get on base, bringing up
Peyton Stevermer, who singled to left center.
Greta Dahlen laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Stevermer and
Taylor Katzenmeyer, who pinch ran for Lambert. A
Macy McNally single down the right field line scored both runners, bringing up the top of the Gustie line-up and evening the score at two apiece.
Madi Mueller was hit by a pitch, followed by a fly out to right.
Kayla Herda had the game-winning at-bat, doubling to right center to score both Mueller and McNally.
Caitlin Olafsson and
Carly Olson both singled to score runs and end the inning 6-2 in favor of the Gusties.
Anderson allowed two hits in the bottom of the seventh, but closed things out with two runners on base to end the game in favor of the visitors.
Seven Gusties tallied a hit, led by Lambert who went 2-for-3. Herda and McNally both picked up two RBI. Anderson added her ninth win of the season in the complete game victory, allowing one earned run off eight hits with five strikeouts.
