2/1/2025 6:14:00 PM

MANKATO, Minn. - The Gustavus men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Mark Schuck Open & Multi, hosted by MSU-Mankato, on Friday and Saturday. The meet featured 27 different teams, ranging across Division I, II, and III.

"This was a very important benchmark meet for us to test ourselves against the best competition in the area," said Assistant Coach Nathan Harder. "It's great to see our Gusties putting up excellent marks, especially at big meets like this one. As we prepare for our final conference push, keep an eye for some even bigger personal bests and amazing performances."

Megan Geraets had a standout performance in the long jump with a mark of 18-7.25. The distance of 5.67 meters was sixth overall at the meet, first among Division III competitors, and ranks 10th in Division III this season. The mark is also just two inches shy of the school record of 18-9.25, set by Janey Helland in 2011. Geraets also ran the 200-meter, taking fourth place overall and first among Division III runners, with a time of 25.30, which currently ranks 27th in Division III this season.

Kate Carlson ran a 7.88 in the 60-meter prelims, which is top-60 in Division III this season. In the high jump, Kayla Kajer set a personal record with a leap of 5-3.25, which ranks 32nd in Division III this season.

First-years Laura Thauvin and Emily Podulke set personal bests in the 60-hurdles with times of 9.51 and 9.74, respectively. Alison Stacy led the Gusties in the 300-meter with a time of 44.40. Isabel Fynboh crossed the 400-meter line in 1:04.37. McKenzie Luetmer posted a 1:46.32 in the 600-meter. Kailyn Walukas went 2:26.62 in the 800-meter. Amelia Dewberry ran the mile in 5:57.51. Rebecca Hoffman posted a mark of 44-7.5 in the weight throw.

On the men's side, Tyler Smith won the 800-meter with a time of 1:57.31. Markus Rupnow was close behind in fourth at 2:00.67.

Alexander Palmer ran a 7.41 in the 60-meter. Simon Lippert crossed the 200-meter line in 23.76. In the 300-meter, Cohen Stursa finished in 36.75. Sam Schulze and Stursa went 52.61 and 52.75 in the 400-meter, respectively. Cullen Arneson ran a 1:28.60 in the 600-meter. Henry Landsem ran the mile in 4:38.67, while Matthew Berge ran the 3000-meter in 9:34.57.

Danny Bies finished 10th in the high jump with a leap of 6-0. Isaiah Subah cleared 20-9.0 in the long jump. Joe Ream led the Gustie pole vaulters with a height of 13-2.5. And Zack Stordahl hit a mark of 40-4.0 in the weight throw.

"The men long jumpers started off the meet strong for the horizontals with a few season PRs," said Assistant Coach Billy Visto. "And the ladies kept that momentum with strong jumps and a huge indoor PR for Megan to put her 10th in the nation and two inches from the school record. Sarrah was the lone triple jumper to cap the evening off with a strong performance there for her as well."

Gustavus next competes at Carleton's Meet of the Hearts on Feb. 8.
