MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The women of Gustavus swimming and diving took to day two of the MIAC Championship meet, and came away with a pair of individual titles on Thursday, Feb. 20 in Minneapolis.
Geneva Fackler (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.) and
Marit Isaacson (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) won the first two women's finals of the night, helping the Gusties to sit atop the conference after day two of team scoring.
Fackler impressed in the first individual final of her young career, posting a 5:04.74 to lead the field in the 500 freestyle, nearly three seconds better than her preliminary time from earlier in the day. She was four seconds ahead of the next swimmer, and six ahead of reigning MIAC Swimmer of the Year Skye Schmit.
Isaacson claimed her win in the 200 IM, posting a 2:06.27 for first. First-year
Sommer Krause (Farmington, Minn.) added an eighth place finish for the Gusties, touching the wall in 2:12.20.
In the 50 freestyle,
Katelyn Siers (Fy., St. Cloud, Minn.) took fifth for the Gusties, finishing in 24.33 in her first individual final.
Linnea Reinsmoen (Fy., Doha, Qatar),
Stella Anderson Moye (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), and
Olivia Koeneman (So., Mankato, Minn.) also took 10th, 11th, and 13th in the event, respectively.
Gabriella Stoudt (Jr., Maple Plain, Minn.) added a top three finish for the Gusties off the 3-meter board, taking third with a score of 411.35 behind Carleton's Hailey Westrup and Nina Schwab.
In the final event of the night for the women, the Gusties finished third in the 400 medley relay, as
Eloise Cooper (Fy., Stevens Point, Wis.),
Lindsay Sundby (Jr., Randolph, Minn.), Reinsmoen, and Fackler touched the wall in 3:54.12 behind Macalester and St. Olaf.
Through two days of competition, the Gustie women are in first with 231 points, followed closely by Macalester (226.5) and St. Olaf (210). St. Catherine is in fourth with 175 points, while Carleton is in fifth with 173.5.
Prelims resume tomorrow at 10:30 a.m., featuring the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke. The finals session will begin at 6:30 p.m. for each individual event as well as the 200 freestyle relay.
