SAINT PETER, Minn. – In the final meet of the regular season at the Sponberg Gymnastics studio, the Gusties (3-8, 3-6 WIAC) won the floor exercise in a 190.500-183.450 setback against the UW-Stout Blue Devils (7-4, 6-2 WIAC) on February 28. Â
The Gustavus gymnastics team celebrated senior night Friday night, celebrating
Lindsay Bangs (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.),
Ella Binfet (Sr., Anoka, Minn.),
Adi Dack (Sr., Northfield, Minn.),
Lili Guy (Sr., Glendale Heights, Ill.),
Lily Horsch (Sr., Somonauk, Ill.),
Olivia Jahnke (Sr., Hanover, Minn.),
Marley Michaud (Sr., Sartell, Minn), and
Alaina Syverson (Sr., Rogers, Minn.) and their outstanding contributions to the program with multiple records being broken individually and as a team in their years on the team.Â
In the first rotation, the Gusties scored a 47.075 on the vault. This score was led by another stellar performance from Guy with a score of 9.700, who won the event by a margin of 0.050. Behind Guy were Bangs and
Malia Narciso (Fy., Roseburg, Ore.) both scoring a 9.375. Closely behind those two was Horsch with a score of 9.350. Overall on the vault, the Blue Devils bettered the Gusties 47.575-47.075.
On the uneven bars,
Maddox Lee (Jr., Hugo, Minn.) led the way for the home squad, scoring a 9.500, only .050 away from her season best and .075 away from her career best. This placed fifth in the event, joined by Guy in the top eight with her score of 9.175. The visitors swept the top four spots in the event, led by Emma Brittingham and Jamie Beatty, who tied for first place with a score of 9.725.
In the third rotation of the night, first year
Kate Clairmont (Fy., Grand Rapids, Minn.) made a statement tying her season and career best for the Gusties with a score of 9.575.
Cara Wong (Fy., Sacramento, Calif.) also impressed, garnering a score of 9.025. The Blue Devils took the event with a team score of 47.775, led by Effie Ferguson with a 9.775.
On the floor, the final event for the home team, the Gusties finished their home regular season schedule in style, with a score of 47.375 to beat the Blue Devils' 47.000. This was thanks to a quartet of seniors, Guy, Jahnke, Michaud, and Bangs. Guy tied her career best with a score of 9.775 to take the event honors, with Jahnke and Michaud gathering a 9.675 and 9.650 respectively, their best scores in the event at home of the year. Bangs contributed a 9.525 to the team score in the event.
All-around, Michaud led the Gusties with a score of 35.175 and Wong followed with a score of 33.700. Guy led the way in two events, the vault and floor exercise, winning both events.Â
The Gusties return to action next weekend at the WIAC Championships, hosted by UW-La Crosse, with the event beginning at 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 8.
