Gymnastics Returns Home, Drops Dual to UW-Whitewater

SAINT PETER, Minn. – After four weekends on the road, the Gustavus gymnastics team finally returned home to the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio, dropping a WIAC dual meet to UW-Whitewater, 191.950-184.400, on Saturday, Feb. 8.

The Gusties (1-7, 1-5 WIAC) performed their best on the floor exercise Saturday afternoon, totaling a 47.725. The team added a 47.450 on vault, a 46.025 on beam, and a 43.200 on the bars. The team had four top five finishes, as well as an event winner in Lili Guy (Sr., Glendale Heights, Ill.) on floor. 

In the first rotation, Guy led the Gusties on the vault, totaling a 9.625 for third overall, her second-highest score of the season. Lily Horsch (Sr., Somonauk, Ill.) was next, taking fifth with a 9.575. Malia Narciso (Roseburg, Ore.), in her vault competition debut, posted a 9.425 to tie for ninth alongside fellow first-year Cara Wong (Sacramento, Calif.). Whitewater's Carleigh Moore won the event with a 9.675, helping her team post a total of 48.025 in the event. 

The Gusties took to the bars in their second rotation, once more led by Guy, who totaled a 9.300 for sixth, a season-high score for the senior. Marley Michaud (Sr., Sartell, Minn.) was next with a 9.000, followed by Kate Clairmont's (Fy., Grand Rapids, Minn.) 8.925. UWW (4-0, 4-0 WIAC) claimed the top five scores on bars, led by Hayden Gough's 9.650.

Clairmont tied for fourth overall to lead the Gusties on the beam, posting a career- and season-high 9.575 in her routine. Adi Dack (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) was next for the home team, posting a 9.475 for sixth overall, as well as a new season- and career-best score. Olivia Jahnke (Sr., Hanover, Minn.) took seventh with a 9.150, followed by Lindsay Bangs (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) in eighth with a 9.075. The Warhawks claimed the top three scores, with Chloe Hammond winning the event with a 9.800. 

Guy's 9.675 on floor was the best mark of the day, tying with UWW's Kelsey Kollhoff for first. Jahnke was next in a tie for fourth with a 9.625, followed by Bangs, who added a 9.600 for seventh. Ella Binfet (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) added a season-high 9.475 in the event for ninth, while Lily Tews (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) posted a 9.350 in her floor collegiate debut. 

Wong was the only all-around competitor of the day, totaling a 34.950 through the four events, with her best performances on vault (9.425) and floor (9.175). 

The Gusties return home to host Hamline (0-6, 0-4 WIAC) at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.
