Carlson, Geraets Finish Indoor Season at NCAA Championships

3/14/2025 8:48:00 PM

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Gustavus sprinters Kate Carlson and Megan Geraets wrapped up the 2025 indoor track & field season Friday at the NCAA Championships.

Geraets started the day by earning Second Team All-America honors in the long jump. Competing in the first of two heats, Geraets qualified for finals with her third jump of prelims, which matched her lifetime best of 18-7.25. Geraets entered the finals seeded eighth, but was unable to better her prelim mark and finished ninth. Geraets joins Janey Helland '11 as the only two Gusties to achieve Indoor All-America in the long jump.

"It has been a nostalgic end to the indoor senior season," said Geraets. "I am super proud to have had the opportunity to compete in such a competitive field this season, and to have made the trip with my teammate Kate Carlson. More to come this outdoor season, and I look forward to being with my team through it all as I wrap up senior year!"

"I'm extremely proud of how Megan jumped today," said jumps coach Billy Visto. "Tying her lifetime indoor PR on the biggest stage is a huge accomplishment. Our goal was to make finals and get six jumps today. She got six jumps but just got pipped from All-American status on the last round of jumps to finish ninth for Second Team All American."

Geraets also ran the 200-meter and finished 14th with a time of 25.19, earning her second Second Team All-America honor of the day. Carlson took 17th in the 200 with a time of 25.28.

"I'm super thankful that I got to be here this weekend after almost not qualifying," said Carlson. "It means even more to have my parents and grandparents here to cheer me on. I'm grateful for the opportunity to compete among the best in our division, and can't wait to see what blessings outdoor brings!"

"I'm super proud of Kate and Megan in everything they have accomplished," said Head Coach Aaron Lund. "It's just incredible how tough the competition is in DIII right now. Megan and Kate end their indoor career as the two best 200-meter runners in school history and the two fastest 200-meter runners in the history of the MIAC. The team, coaching staff, friends, family and alumni are so so proud of them!"
