BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Jimmy Abdo was named the MIAC Men's Golf Player of the Week for the first time of his career on Tuesday, April 22.

Abdo (Fy., Edina, Minn.) led the Gustavus men's golf team to victory at the annual Bobby Krig Invite, taking first in the field and helping the Gusties to victory in their home tournament. Abdo's final line was 72-70-73-215, and he moved up one spot after Friday's first two rounds on the back of a birdie and a two-shot eagle, carding 11 pars in the final 18 holes of the tournament. His first two rounds featured seven birdies and 22 pars.

Abdo is averaging 75.7 shots through 20 rounds and eight events. He's placed in the top-25 four different times and has the third-best average on the team. He is the third from the team to earn MIAC weekly honors, as Chris Gutuza (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa) and Teddy Kaste (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) received the award in the fall.

Of the 11 schools participating in last weekend's Bobby Krig Invite, two were featured in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches' Top 25 poll in No. 19 UW-Eau Claire and No. 25 Saint John's. Two appeared in the Scoreboard by clippd National Collegiate Golf Rankings Top 25, including the then-No. 22 Blugolds, as well as No. 24 Southwestern Community College (Iowa). The Gusties moved up five spots to No. 29 in the clippd rankings following the weekend.

The men's golf team competes next at Saint John's annual tournament, the SJU Spring Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27. Saturday's competition begins at 10:30 a.m. at Wapicada Golf Club (par 72), followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun on Sunday at Monticello Country Club (par 71).
