MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - As the regular season nears its end, the Gustavus track & field team made some positive strides Wednesday at the University of Minnesota Gary Wilson Invitational.
"The Gusties were flying today!" said Assistant Coach
Nathan Harder. "As the finish line of the season approaches, our jumpers and hurdlers are making the most of our late season meets and thriving against some very talented competition. Both our upperclassmen and underclassmen are really showing up and putting together some great performances when it counts."
Lili Guy set a new personal record in the triple jump with a mark of 37-6.0, which finished third at the meet (first among DIII competitors) and moves her into 32nd in Division III this season.
Megan Geraets took fifth in the long jump at 18-3.25. In the high jump,
Kayla Kajer finished eighth, clearing 5-1.25.
Kelley Brennan took fifth in the hammer throw (first among DIII competitors) with a heave of 163-09.
"It was a beautiful day for the horizontal jumpers today," said Assistant Coach
Billy Visto. "Sarrah had a season PR in long jump and
Lili Guy had a lifetime PR which ranks her first in the conference now. Very happy with how we're all looking coming into championship season."
On the track for the women,
Laura Thauvin took 10th in the 100-hurdles, crossing the line in 15.09.
Kate Carlson took ninth in the 100-meter at 12.33 and 13th in the 200-meter with a time of 25.33.
On the men's side,
Nick Brauer placed sixth in the 800-meter with a personal best time of 1:53.88.
Brendan Carlson and
Cole Matetich tied for fourth place in the high jump, both clearing 6-6.75, which ranks 32nd in Division III this season.
Zechariah Kyoore took 12th in the 100-meter at 10.96 and
Connor McCormick finished 13th in teh 110-hurdles at 15.57.
Gustavus is right back at it tomorrow at the Macalester Rider Bolstroff.
