SAINT PETER, Minn. - No. 31 Gustavus men's tennis made quick work of St. Olaf in the MIAC playoff semifinals Thursday, winning 4-0 at the Swanson Tennis Center. The Gusties, now 18-11 overall, advance to the MIAC playoff championship match Saturday where they will host either Bethel or Carleton.
As the sixth-ranked duo in Division III,
Gage Gohl and
Tyler Haddorff set the tone for the afternoon, swiftly winning 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Josh Christensen and
Taona Mhwandagara followed with a 6-3 win at No. 3 to secure the doubles point.
Dominik Knutson and
Marco Siviero were up 5-3 when doubles was clinched.
Knutson then claimed the first singles point 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. Siviero followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2, and Mhwandagara closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6. Gohl won the first set 6-3 at No. 1 and was trailing 3-2 in the second when the match concluded. Christensen was up 6-2, 4-1 at No. 4 and Haddorff was leading 6-2, 5-2 at No. 5.
Gustavus is seeking its 17th MIAC playoff title on Saturday at home, having won 13 consecutive playoff championships. The Gusties are also on the hunt for their 37th NCAA postseason appearance.
