10/5/2026 9:30:00 PM

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team hosted and competed in the 2026 ITA DIII Men's Midwest Regional Championships this past weekend. In the final day of the tournament on Monday, Dominik Knutson and Takura Mhwandagara competed in the championship matches: Knutson in the singles title match and both of them as a team in the doubles final.

Knutson, who was the regional singles runner-up last year, faced Theo Billson of UW-Whitewater in the morning for the singles championship. The Gustavus senior fell 6-0 in the opening set. Knutson started to rally in the second set, but Billson staved off the comeback and took the second set 6-4 to clinch the match and the regional singles title.

In the afternoon, the two singles finalists returned to the court as the Gustavus duo of Mhwandagara and Knutson battled the UW-Whitewater team of Luke Blumentritt and Billson for the regional doubles title. The opening set went the Warhawks way as Blumentritt and Billson won it 6-3. Mhwandagara and Knutson kept up the fight, but the UW-Whitewater team went on to take the second set 6-3 as well to win the doubles championship.

As the regional finalists, the two Gusties will advance to compete in the national ITA Cup; Mhwandagara for doubles and Knutson for both singles and doubles.

Gustavus had a strong showing at the ITA Regional this fall. In addition to Knutson and Mhwandagara making the finals, the Gustie duo of Yash Bahalkar and Christopher Dencker made the doubles semifinals while Christian Wong and Dencker made the singles quarterfinals.

Up next for Gustavus this fall is the ITA Cup, which runs October 15-18 at Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
