Biewen, Baker Headline 2025 MIAC Baseball Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - The MIAC announced the 2025 baseball awards Tuesday and nine Gusties received All-Conference recognition, while Adam Biewen was named the Mike Augustin PItcher of the Year and Brad Baker was honored as the Jim Dimick Coach of the Year. All-Conference honors went to Chris Knowles, Luke Siegle, Danny Gavin, Brayden Kohls, Drake Siens, Joe Burns, Biewen, Brevin Goetz, and Benny Mcdonald.
 
Biewen becomes the second Gustie in program history to earn MIAC Pitcher of the Year, joining teammate Mitch Casperson, who earned the award in 2023. Biewen enters the national tournament with a 6-0 record and owns a 3.22 ERA in 50.1 innings. Biewen has struck out a team-high 63 batters (2nd/MIAC), while opponents are hitting .223 (4th/MIAC). In conference play, Biewen went 5-0 with a 1.50 ERA, while registering 44 strikeouts in 30.0 innings. The fifth-year senior earned D3baseball.com Team of the Week honors on April 24 after striking out a career-high 14 batters in a complete game victory over Hamline.
 
After leading the Gusties to their third MIAC regular season championship in the past six seasons, Brad Baker garners his second MIAC Coach of the Year honor. Baker has skippered the Gusties to the best season in program history, setting single season program records for wins (36), winning percentage (.837), at bats (1446), hits (506), doubles (96), RBIs (365), runs (396), and on base percentage (.444). Baker coached the Gusties to a perfect 3-0 record in the MIAC tournament, capturing the first MIAC playoff title in program history, which coincided with the first appearance in the NCAA tournament. In his final season as head coach, Baker has helped secure home field advantage in the NCAA regional round as host of a four-team regional this weekend.
 
Knowles earns his third straight All-MIAC honor as a first baseman. Knowles has the third highest batting average on the team at .367 and leads the squad in home runs (9, 2nd/MIAC) and slugging percentage (.645, 3rd/MIAC). Knowles has started all 43 games this season and has a 1.116 OPS with 61 hits, 50 runs (3rd/MIAC), 11 doubles, four triples (2nd/MIAC), and 45 RBIs (3rd/MIAC). In the field, Knowles owns a .991 fielding percentage. The New Ulm native is seven hits shy of 200 in his career and his 28 career home runs rank fourth in program history. Knowles set the program record for career putouts, entering Friday's regional game with 1027.
 
Siegle earns All-Conference for the second time and first as a third baseman after being selected as an All-MIAC pitcher in 2023. For the first time in his career, Siegle has started in every game as a two-way player between third and pitcher. He is batting .350 with 41 hits, 13 doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 34 RBIs. Siegle's OPS is 1.020 with a .573 slugging and ..447 on base percentage. On the mound this season, Siegle is 5-2 with a 5.98 ERA in 46.2 innings. Siegle is the program record holder with 38 games started on the mound and is eight strikeouts away from the career program record of 177.
 
Gavin has led the team in hitting all season with a MIAC-best .438 batting average and 74 hits (2nd/MIAC). Gavin owns a team-best 1.173 OPS (3rd/MIAC) and .534 on base percentage (2nd/MIAC). Gavin's 58 runs scored are one shy of the program record and lead the conference. Starting all 43 games, Gavin has a team-high 14 doubles (3rd/MIAC), along with one triple, three home runs, 45 RBI, and a MIAC-best 32 walks. He is second on the team with nine stolen bases in 13 attempts.
 
Kohls leads the MIAC with 75 hits and is second on the team with a .429 batting average (3rd/MIAC). Also starting in all 43 games and batting second in the lineup, Kohls has a 1.059 OPS, .589 slugging, and .470 on base percentage. He has collected 51 runs (2nd/MIAC), 13 doubles, three triples, three home runs, and leads the league with 53 RBIs. Kohls also leads the team with 10 stolen bases in 13 attempts.
 
Siens earns his second All-MIAC nod after receiving the honor in 2023. This season Siens is batting .350 with 56 hits, 34 runs, 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 37 RBIs. Siens has a .954 OPS with a .519 slugging and .435 on base percentage. Siens is nine hits away from 200 in his career and his 11 career triples rank second in program history.
 
Burns garners his first All-Conference selection as a DH with a .363 batting average, 49 hits, 27 runs, five doubles, three triples, five home runs, and 47 RBIs, which rank second in the MIAC. He has a .951 OPS with a .556 slugging and .395 on base percentage. Burns is 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts. He has also spent time in the outfield.
 
Goetz also earns his first All-Conference honor with a team-best 3.10 ERA in 52.1 innings. Goetz is 5-0 in 13 appearances and six starts, including 48 strikeouts and one save. Opponents are batting .241 off Goetz.
 
Mcdonald is another first-time All-Conference selection with a MIAC-best 7-0 record on the mound. Mcdonald owns a 3.66 ERA in a team-high 64.0 innings with 13 appearances and 11 starts. He has struck out 49 batters while opponents are hitting .255.
 
Honorable mention honors went to Sam Schneider and Brady Schmitz. Schneider, the team's starting catcher, is batting .306 with 33 hits, 33 runs, eight doubles, one home run, and 19 RBIs. He owns an. 876 OPS with a .407 slugging and .469 on base percentage. Behind the plate, Schneider has thrown out seven runners in 36 stolen base attempts. Schmitz, the starting shortstop before suffering a broken hand in the final game of the regular season, hit .323 with 43 hits, 43 runs, nine doubles, two home runs, and 34 RBIs. He has a .886 OPS with a .436 slugging and .450 on base percentage.
 
Siens, Burns, Gavin, and Kohls were also selected to the All-Playoff Team.
 
Gustavus begins NCAA regional play Friday against Beloit.
