EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus Adolphus College gymnastics team battled University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds on the road Friday night in their season opener, falling 187.300-183.700.
Cara Wong led the Gusties at the meet, winning the all-around title with a score of 37.525 through all four events.
Zara Reboks was the all-around runner-up, scoring 35.700.
Gustavus won the balance beam 47.275 to 46.675 over Eau Claire. Wong and Reboks tied for first place overall in the event, winning with matching scores of 9.600.
Kate Clairmont followed, tied for third overall at 9.575.
Wong led Gustavus in the uneven bars, scoring 9.350 to place fourth overall.
Autumn Schmidt followed right afterwards in fifth place with a score of 9.325.
Makenna Aldrich had the third-best finish for the Gusties in the uneven bars, placing seventh at 8.800. Eau Claire outscored Gustavus 46.000 to 43.525 in the event.
Clairmont and Wong led the Gusties in the vault, tying for sixth place overall at 9.325. Reboks placed ninth overall for Gustavus, scoring 9.275. The Blugolds took the vault 47.0500 to 46.200
Aldrich led the Gusties in the floor exercise, scoring 9.550 to tie for second overall.
Ella Nash followed with a 9.375, placing seventh overall. Reboks scored 9.325 to finish top-three for Gustavus and eighth overall. Eau-Claire won the floor exercise 47.575 to 46.700.
Up next for the Gusties is a road trip to Winona where they will take on the Winona State University Warriors and once again the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds on Friday, January 16 at 5:30 p.m.
