SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 20 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team battled the University of Sioux Falls Cougars, an NCAA Division II team, and the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars on Saturday. The Gusties swept both matches 7-0 to improve to 3-0 through the opening matches of their 2026 season.
Gustavus vs. Sioux Falls
The Gusties swept the opening doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Ella De Young and
Allison Szalay swept the #3 match 6-0 to start off the day.
Karina Elvestrom and
Kaya De Bruijn followed with a 6-3 win at #1 doubles.
Molly Austin and
Lanie Davis wrapped up doubles with a 7-5 win in the #2 match.
De Bruijn gave Gustavus a 2-0 lead in the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #2 singles.
Noor Omar followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #4 singles, putting the Gusties up 3-0. De Young secured the match-deciding fourth team point with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 singles.
Team win in hand, Gustavus kept on competing as Davis took #6 singles 6-2, 6-1. Elvestrom followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #1 singles. Austin secured the sweep for the Gusties with a hard-fought 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) comeback win at #3 singles.

Madison Packer and
Annie Klemmensen swept their #1 doubles match 6-0 to give Gustavus an edge in the battle for the doubles point.
Katie Thompson and
Ashley Stroebel clinched the doubles team point for the Gusties with a 6-0 sweep at #2 doubles.
Melat Tabara and
Taylor Ruhl secured the doubles sweep for Gustavus with a 6-1 win in the #3 match.
Tabara put the Gusties up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at #4 singles. Packer then competed a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at #2 singles, giving Gustavus a 3-0 lead.
Rika Cross secured the team victory for the Gusties with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #1 singles.
Evelyn Bryson followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at #5 singles to put Gustavus up 5-0. Ruhl won 6-1, 6-0 at #6 singles and then Thompson closed out the two-match day with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #3 singles, securing the 7-0 win for the Gusties.

Gustavus is set to play four matches on the road on Saturday, February 7 with half their squad taking on Nebraska-Kearney and McPherson while the other half is at UMary and Jamestown.
