MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Gustavus Adolphus College gymnastics team battled the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils and the Simpson College Storm on Friday night. The Gusties placed third in the triangular with 182.175 points. The Storm won the meet with a team score of 188.875 while the Blue Devils were the runner-up with 188.550.
Kate Clairmont placed first in the balance beam, winning the event with a score of 9.775.
Autumn Schmidt had the second-best Gustavus score in the event, placing seventh overall with a 9.425. The Gusties finished as the runner-up in the beam, scoring 46.375 to finish ahead of Simpson (45.900) but second to UW-Stout (47.650).
Clairmont also had the top Gustavus score in the vault, tying for third overall with a 9.650.
Cara Wong,
Zara Reboks, and
Taylor Hall all tied for the next highest Gustie score, earning 9.450 to place ninth. The Storm won the vault with a 47.950, followed by the Blue Devils (47.575) and the Gusties (47.375).
Wong had the top score for Gustavus in the uneven bars, earning a 9.325 to finish sixth overall. Schmidt followed in 11
th, scoring 8.750 for the Gusties. Simpson won the uneven bars, scoring 47.050 to lead UW-Stout (45.975) and Gustavus (41.675).
In the floor exhibition, Wong led the Gusties with a 9.450, tying for eighth overall.
Megan Gille and Reboks both scored 9.425 for Gustavus to tie for 10
th overall. The Storm took the floor exhibition with a 47.975, followed by the Blue Devils (47.350) and the Gusties (46.750).
Wong and Reboks were the two athletes to place in the all-around, with Wong winning the title with 37.475 total points and Reboks finishing as runner-up with 35.150.
Up next for the Gusties is a return home to Saint Peter as they host their regular season finale against Simpson on Friday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio.
