SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 21 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team battled the No. 8 Swarthmore College Garnet on Sunday afternoon in the seventh-place match of the ITA DIII National Men's Team Indoor Championship, falling 4-1.
Swarthmore opened doubles with a 6-3 win in the #3 match. The Garnet secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win in the #2 match. The #1 doubles match was left unfinished as the match format was clinch-clinch.
In singles,
Dominik Knutson earned the lone point of the match for Gustavus. The junior won the #2 match 6-4, 6-0 to tie the team score at 1-1.
The Gusties won the first set in three of the remaining five singles matches, but the Garnet were able to secure successive wins at #4, #5, and #1 singles to take the match 4-1.
Up next for the Gusties is their trip to California over spring break, where they will compete in six matches. After an exhibition against Claremont-Mud-Scripps to open the trip on Monday, March 2, Gustavus will take on Caltech in a regular season match on Wednesday, March 4.
