Softball Falls to Concordia Wisconsin, Bethany Lutheran

MANKATO, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College softball team battled the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons and the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings on the road Sunday in Mankato on the final day of the Bethany Invite. The Gusties homered against the Falcons but fell 3-2 and were defeated by the Vikings 2-0.

Game One: Concordia Wisconsin

The Gusties out-hit the Falcons 7-to-2 but ended up falling 3-2 in their first game on Sunday morning.

CUW scored the first run of the game in the third inning, driving in a runner from second with an RBI single to right.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the sixth, Carly Olson drew a leadoff walk. Macy McNally entered to pinch run for Olson and reached second on a sac bunt. Two batters later, Caitlin Olafsson stepped up to the plate with two outs and launched a two-run shot over the wall in left field to put the Gusties up 2-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Falcons responded with two runs of their own to retake the lead.

A walk and a hit in the top of the seventh gave Gustavus runners on first and second with one out in the inning, but a lineout and a strikeout ended the rally attempt as Concordia Wisconsin secured a 3-2 win.

Game Two: Bethany Lutheran

The Gustie pitchers held the Vikings, who are 7-1 overall, to just two runs on five hits. However, Gustavus' bats went cold for just three hits in the game as they fell 2-0 to Bethany Lutheran.

BLC scored the only runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning. With runners on first and second with one out, the Vikings singled to right to drive in one while the other runner advanced to third. A sac fly in the following at bat put Bethany Lutheran up 2-0.

The Gusties were able to get runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but a flyout to center ended their rally attempt.
