SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 16 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team battled the University of Nebraska Omaha Mavericks, an NCAA Division I program, on Sunday morning. The Gusties took two points from the Mavericks but fell 5-2.
Gustavus had success in doubles against their DI opponents. The Mavericks took #2 doubles but
Gage Gohl and
Tyler Haddorff responded with a 6-4 win at #1.
Noah Hakim and
Owen Skanse followed with a 7-6 victory at #3 doubles to secure the first team point of the match.
Luke Fridinger put the Gusties up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #5 singles, but the Mavericks won the five remaining singles matches to take the win. Haddorff and
Dominik Knutson both rallied from first set loses to take set two, but fell in the third.
Up next for Gustavus is a home match against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks on Saturday, April 4 at 10:00 a.m. in the Swanson Tennis Center.
