NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 18 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team battled the St. Olaf College Oles and the St. Catherine University Wildcats on Sunday. The Gusties swept both matches 7-0 to improve to 24-5 overall, remain undefeated in the MIAC at 7-0, and extend their winning streak to 14 matches in a row.
Match One: St. Olaf
Karina Elvestrom and
Kaya De Bruijn swept #1 doubles to open the day.
Ella De Young and
Allison Szalay followed with a 6-1 win at #3 doubles to secure the first point of the match for Gustavus.
Molly Austin and
Lanie Davis completed a doubles sweep for the Gusties with a 6-2 win at #2.
Davis and De Young each swept their #6 and #5 singles matches, respectively, to put Gustavus up 3-0.
Noor Omar clinched the match for the Gusties with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at #4 singles.
Elvestrom took #1 singles 6-2, 6-2. De Bruijn then completed a 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 singles. Austin wrapped up the 7-0 team sweep for Gustavus with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #3 singles.
Match Two: St. Kate's
Elvestrom and De Bruijn one again won the #1 doubles match, sweeping 6-0 again. Austin and Davis secured the team point with a 6-3 win at #2 doubles. De Young and Szalay added a 6-1 win at #3 doubles.
Davis doubled the lead for the Gusties with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #6 singles. Omar followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #4 singles. Austin took the fourth team point for Gustavus with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #3 singles.
Elvestrom won another #1 singles match 6-0, 6-2. De Young added another point for the Gusties with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #5 singles. De Bruijn closed out the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 singles.
