LA CROSSE, Wis. - Hunting for a school record in the 10,000-meter, senior
Molly Liston (Richfield, Minn.) traveled to La Crosse, Wis. on Thursday night for a race under the lights at the Phil Esten Challenge. Liston smashed the school record and rewrote the record books with a time of 35:36.38.
Liston waited until 10:06 p.m. to start the race, the finale at the event. In a 26-person heat, Liston also topped the second place runner by just under 29 seconds and third place by 43 seconds, outrunning the WIAC-heavy field. The previous record, set by Marit Sonnesyn at 36:10.38, stood for 10 years before being broken tonight. Liston's time unofficially stands as the 13th best time this season and should that hold, the senior will make one final trip to the national meet, also being held in La Crosse.
The team takes a short break over the weekend before a busy week, holding four events starting on Wednesday at the University of Minnesota Invite.
