NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Gustavus women's track & field team started off the MIAC Championships with 33 points on Day 1, accompanied by multiple qualifiers for the final in events tomorrow.
Sophomore
Emily Podulke (Hastings, Minn.) and first-year
Sophia Vogel (Prinsburg, Minn.) both made the final in the 100-meter hurdles, with Podulke running a personal-best of 14.99 and Vogel closely behind in 15.30, just squeaking into tomorrow's race by 0.04 seconds. All three competitiors for the Gusties in the 400-meter had personal bests, but none could find the final cut line after the three heats were said and done. Vogel qualified for her second final with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles and was joined by classmate
Ava Loftness (Prior Lake, Minn.) in seventh to set up a busy Saturday for the first-year duo. Sophomore
Allison Stacy (Maple Grove, Minn.) qualified in the 200-meter, running the ninth fastest time with a 25.80. After the preliminaty rounds were over for the shorter events, the 4x800-meter took the track, where the team earned four points with a fifth-place finish, running a season-best of 9:41.88. The highlight and top finish of the day was senior
Molly Liston (Richfield, Minn.) in the 10,000-meter, where she got second to earn eight points at 36:39.86.
The throws continue to be a strong spot for the women's team, who performed very well in the discus, including a podium finish from sophomore
Keira McCord (Roseville, Minn.), coming in third place. Junior
Olivia Duncan (Savage, Minn.) scored five points with a fourth place finish, while sophomore
Bella Sutch (Blaine, Minn.) and first-year
Yonna Harris (Mankato, Minn.) cleaned up five more points with sixth and seventh place finishes. Sophomore
Kayla Kajer (Lake Elmo, Minn.) ended the day with a fifth-place performance in the high jump.
The Gusties start competition back up tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. with the women's hammer throw and triple jump, before1:30 pm., when the women's 4x100-meter relay kicks the day off on the track.
