SAINT PETER, Minn. – Ludvig Mellgren of the Gustavus Adolphus College men's hockey team has been named a DIIIHockeyNews Men's Second Team West All-American, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Mellgren led Gustavus with five power-play goals on the year and had the second-most points for the Gusties with 22 this season, scoring eight total goals with a .099 shot percentage and notching 14 assists. He also had the second-best plus/minus on the team at +19. Mellgren's eight goals tied him for the fourth-most for Gustavus and his 14 assists ranked second on the team.
The first-year defender was key to the Gusties' defensive success this past year as they allowed just 2.56 goals per game: the fewest in the MIAC. On the other side of the ice, Mellgren helped Gustavus lead the way offensively with the most goals scored as a team in the conference with 104, averaging 3.85 per game
Mellgren helped lead the Gusties to an 18-8-1 overall record this past winter. Gustavus finished the season 12-4 in the MIAC to tie for second in the conference standings with 33 points. The Gusties won their MIAC Playoff Quarterfinal game against Saint Mary's 6-1 in their final home game of the season.
