NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The MIAC heptathlon concluded today at Carleton and the Gusties competing maintained their positions from Day 1, finishing in eighth and 10th place.

Maddox Lee (Hugo, Minn.) was the top finisher for the Gusties in the long jump, coming in 11th. Lee jumped a 4.80m, which earned her 506 points and was just .13m behind her personal best. The other competitor for the group was sophomore
Emily Podulke (Hastings, Minn.), who got 14th in the long jump with a 4.69, good for 477 points.
The second event of the day was the javelin, where Podulke got 10th to stay at 11th place overall. The Hastings native's best mark was 22.51m, which earner her 336 points and was a personal best by just under a meter. As for Lee, she got 14th in the event with a 21.43, also a personal best for 316 points to move to 10th.
Both Gusties improved their overall finish in the last event, the 800-meter. Podulke ran a personal-best 2:28.13, which earned her sixth place in the event and pushed her up into the top 10, scoring 717 points. Lee ran a personal-best 2:29.33 as well, which showed the uniformity of the group, because there were two runners between Podulke and Lee in just a 1.2 second window. Lee scored 701 points to move two spots up into eighth, rounding off her multi-event career at Gustavus.
The eighth place finish by Lee scores one point for the Gusties in the overall MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. After the Ole Open this weekend at St. Olaf, the team looks forward to the MIAC Championships, which take place next Friday and Saturday.
