HASTINGS, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women's golf team hosted and competed in the opening round of their D3 Classic on Saturday afternoon. After the opening round of the two-day tournament, the Gusties stand in second place out of the field of 18 competing teams with a first round score of +19. The Gustavus B-team follows in 13^th place at +42.
 
"Thank you to Emerald greens for hosting," said Gustavus head coach Scott Moe. "They are always excited to have our event. We have a great field this year, 112 players. It is a very tight leaderboard; we will need to be sharp tomorrow as well."
 
Saint Benedict leads the field with a team score of +15; just four strokes ahead of the Gusties. Macalester follows in third place at +22. Carleton and St. Olaf round out the top five teams after the opening round with scores of +24 and +25, respectively.
 
Addison Longie leads the Gusties through the first 18 with score of +1. The sophomore stands in third place overall out of the field of 112 golfers, just three strokes behind the leader Zoe Keene of Concordia at -2.
 
Teckla Wahlstrand followed with the second-best Gustavus round at +5 on the day, tying for 15^th overall. Karina Johnson had the third finish for the Gusties, shooting +6 to tie for 19^th overall. Annika Johnson followed with the fourth and final counted score for the Gustavus A-team at +7, tying for 26^th overall.
 
"Nice to see our team open with four scores in the 70s, led by Addy firing 73," said Moe. "Teckla put up another solid round and strong play from Karina and Annika as well. Shout out to Sydney (+8) for posting her college best today. I thought our finish today was great, we battled hard to the end. Looking forward to a great competition all the way to the end starting early tomorrow morning."
 
Gustavus will return to the course on Sunday, September 13 for the second and final day of their D3 Classic with the tee times set for a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
