SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 15 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team hosted the final day of their annual Fall Invitational on Sunday. Competing with the Gusties at this year's invite were St. Catherine University and three NCAA Division II teams: University of Sioux Falls, Minnesota State University Mankato, and University of Jamestown. On the final day of the invite, the five teams competed in the singles draws with Gustavus winning multiple championships.
 
Karina Elvestrom and Rory Wahlstrand led Gustavus in the No. 1 singles draw. Elvestrom won her opening match 8-1 and took her semifinal match 6-3, 6-0. Wahlstrand earned an 8-7 (7-5) victory in round one and rallied in the semifinals for a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (14-12) marathon victory. Instead of facing each other in the final, the two Gusties took on different opponents for their final match. Elvestrom won her championship match 6-4, 6-2 over Julie Gurholt of Mankato. Wahlstrand fell 6-2, 6-2 to Alma Vasquez Rioja of Mankato in her final match.
 
Noor Omar won the consolation title in the No. 1 singles draw. The junior fell in her opening match but then earned a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 victory in the consolation semifinals and then rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-3) win over Bodi VanZeijl of Jamestown in the consolation championship match.
 
In the No. 3 singles bracket, Maya Brakhage won the championship title. The junior won her round one match 8-2 and then won her semifinal 6-4, 6-4. Brakhage then defeated Valeria Garcia Chaves of Mankato 6-4, 7-5 to win the No. 3 singles championship.
 
Rika Cross won the No. 3 consolation title. After an 8-7 (7-4) defeat in the opening round, the junior won the consolation semifinal 6-1, 6-2 and then defeated Ashley King of St. Kate's 6-1, 6-2 to win the No. 3 singles consolation championship.
 
In the No. 5 singles draw, Katie Thompson won the title. The junior opened her run with an 8-5 win in round one before rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) comeback victory in the semifinals. In the No. 5 singles championship match, Thompson earned a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7 (7-4), 1-0 (10-7) win over Shayna Klitzke of Jamestown to take home the title.
 
Up next for Gustavus is the ITA Midwest Regional Championships that they host from Friday, September 25 through Monday, September 28 on their home courts of the Wilkinson Tennis Complex and in Saint Peter.
