INDEPENDENCE, Minn. - The Gustavus men's golf team wrapped up the Minnesota Golf Classic on Monday, finishing in eighth place of 15 teams. 

The top group for Gustavus ended +25 across the 54 holes and shot +10 on Monday, equaling their team score from the afternoon round on Sunday. "Always fun to play in that 54 whole event and with division one players" said head coach Scott Moe. "We have a pretty young roster, and we made some mental mistakes that we will correct".

Sophomore Charlie Looker (Cottage Grove, Minn.) led the team again, shooting a 73 (+1) today which included a 34 on the front nine at Pioneer Creek. The sophomore fell five spots to tie for 25th individually in the event and 10th amongst Division III competitors. In his first start for the Gusties, first-year Ryan Stanek (Stillwater, Minn.) finished the appearance with a 73 (+1) final day and was +8 overall to tie for 55th. The final two scorers of the day were sophomore Kyle Peterson (Duluth, Minn.) whose +4 (76) today moved him to +10 overall and first-year Noah Gratil (Mellieha, Malta) who also shot a +4 (76). While not scoring today, senior Blake Forrest (Maple Grove, Minn.) finished the tournament +10 overall as well, tying with Peterson and ending tied for 59th place.

Moe had a few thoughts after the round as well today, regarding the performance of the team over the last two days and looking forward to next weekend. "We battled hard, which we always do. Charlie had a great tournament as he finished 10th amongst division three players. Ryan also had a solid tournament in his first top team start. Going to be exciting as we head out to Chambers Bay in Seattle on Thursday for an awesome event with some of the top teams in the country". 

The Gustavus men's golf team travels to Washington this week to take part in the Whitworth Invitational, played at the host site of the 2015 U.S. Open, Chambers Bay Golf Course.
