UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - The Gustavus men's golf team wrapped up the Whitworth Invitational in fifth place, moving up a spot from their position at the end of the first day. 

Playing at the historic Chambers Bay, the host site of the 2015 U.S. Open, two Gusties were able to shoot even-par, a score that only 22 players bettered in the final round in 2015. 

First-year Noah Gratil (Mellieha, Malta) shot an even-par 72, which lifted him to +4, tied for the best score for Gustavus across 36 holes. Gratil bounced back from a +4 (76) first day and his second round was highlighted by an eagle on the 12th hole, a 262-yard par four. Sophomore Ford Finster (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) also shot a 72 and was balanced through the two nines with two birdies and two bogeys. 

Sophomores Kyle Peterson (Duluth, Minn.) and Charlie Looker (Cottage Grove, Minn.) were the final two scorers. Peterson, after a -1 (71) yesterday, shot +5 (77) today, struggling on the front nine with a 43 and was able to stay inside the scoring line with a 34 on the back nine. Looker shot a +7 (79) on the last day, going 39-40 for +11 total. 

After a +11 as a team on Saturday and sitting in sixth place, the Gusties were able to push back and enter a tie for fifth with Willamette with a +12 second day. Peterson and Gratil were the top scorers after the tournament was done, tying for eighth individually. 

The Gustavus men's golf team hosts the Twin Cities Classic this weekend, playing in Elk River on Friday, Le Sueur Country Club on Sunday, and Minnesota Valley Country Club on Monday.
