SAINT PETER, Minn. — Hot off a 2-0 MIAC victory Friday afternoon, the Gustavus men's soccer team was looking to keep momentum going Sunday against UW-Whitewater. Unfortunately for the Gusties, it was Whitewater who took the two goal advantage at the Gustie Soccer Field, staying undefeated with a record of 11-0-4, while Gustavus drops to 4-3-4 overall.
Both teams played scoreless through the first half, exchanging their fair share of chances. The Gusties managed steady offensive pressure through the first 45, tallying nine shots and four on frame, while the Warhawks had four attempts all on target.
Egan Bedwell, in his first start of the season, saved all four to stay perfect through the first half.
Bedwell's shutout was broken just after halftime, as Whitewater tallied two quick goals within four minutes of each other. A pair of costly fouls led to free kicks for the Warhawks, who made the most of their opportunities in the box. The Gusties fought to the game's end, getting three quality scoring chances in the final minute of play, but couldn't manage one past Warhawk keeper Duncan Morgan.
Jakob Foss led the team with two of the Gusties' nine shots on goal, with seven other players accounting for the remainder. Bedwell made five saves between the pipes, while his counterpart Morgan posted the clean sheet with nine saves.
The Gusties will return to MIAC play next weekend, heading to Moorhead to take on Concordia Saturday.
