BLAINE, Minn. - The Gustavus men's hockey team Friday lost 4-1 at Bethel, dropping to 2-4-1 overall and 0-3 in the MIAC, while the Royals remain unbeaten at 5-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the league.
The Royals struck first 9:17 into the first period and maintained the one-goal lead into the second period until they added two more at the 8:06 and 12:11 marks for a 3-0 advantage. The Gusties were quick to respond to the third Bethel goal, scoring 30 seconds later as
Nate Stone and
Jack Kubitz found
Jack Suchy for his second goal of the season.
Bethel took advantage of a power play at the 15:05 mark of the second to regain a three-goal lead and that score stood as a final.
Gustavus edged Bethel in shots 27-25.
Jackson Hjelle suffered the loss in goal after making 21 saves.
Game two of the MIAC series is set for 7 p.m. Saturday in Saint Peter.
