SAINT PETER, Minn. - Three third period goals in the final seven minutes of the game resulted in a 5-2 win for Gustavus men's hockey over UW-Stout on Tuesday night. The Gusties improve to 4-4-1 overall while the Blue Devils drop to 3-4-1.
UW-Stout took an early 1-0 lead just 1:19 into the game and the score remained a one-goal game after the first period. The Gusties wasted little time to net the equalizer just 16 seconds into the second.
Thomas Patterer and
Grant Ellings found
Wilmer Svensson for his second goal of the season. Twenty-one seconds later,
Nate Stone and
Kylar Fenton found
Jack Suchy for the go-ahead goal and the Gusties maintained a 2-1 lead at the second break.
The Blue Devils tied the game 2-2 1:17 into the third period, but the Gusties answered with what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 12:54 mark.
Mason Hendrickson and
Coby Weber assisted on
Jac Triemert's team-leading fourth goal of the season. Nearly two minutes later,
Nate Stone scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season with the help of Suchy and
Jack Anderson. And
Connor Mahony added an empty-netter with 1:55 left in the game.
The Gusties edged the Blue Devils 38-36 in shots as
Will Pinney made 34 saves in his season debut. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.
Gustavus returns to conference play Dec. 1 and 2 against Saint Mary's. Friday night's game is in Saint Peter.
