SAINT PETER, Minn. - No. 8 Gustavus women's basketball allowed a program record low two points in the first quarter Wednesday and cruised to a 70-39 victory over Macalester to remain undefeated. The Gusties improve to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC, while the Scots drop to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the league.Â

Izzy Quick and
Syd Hauger in the first minute gave the Gusties an early advantage and they continued to pile on the points and play stout defense the rest of the quarter. Gustavus led 13-0 before the Scots scored their first points on a pair of free throws a the 5:29 mark.Â
The Gusties answered with 16 consecutive points before Macalester made its first field goal - a three-pointer - at the 6:26 mark of the second quarter to make the score 29-5. Gustavus increased its lead to as much as 32 points at 41-9 and went into the locker room at half with a 43-13 lead.Â
The second half featured the Gustie bench players with
Emily Bowron leading the way with six points in 14 minutes of action.
Ella Peters added five points and six rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench.
Emma Kniefel led the offense with 16 points while adding three steals in 16 minutes of play. Hauger was next with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a game-high four assists.Â
Gustavus shot 43.9 percent from the floor and held the Scots to 27.9 percent. The Gusties out-rebounded the Scots 34-20 and had 20 second-chance points.Â
Gustavus next travels to St. Catherine on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tipoff.Â
