SAINT PETER, Minn. — Two goals in the third period propelled Gustavus women's hockey over Augsburg Friday night, as the Gusties maintained their undefeated MIAC record with a 3-1 win at Don Roberts Ice Rink Friday night. Deadlocked 1-1 after the second,
Emily Olson and
Kaitlyn Holland scored for the Gusties in a span of two minutes for the win, which moves the Gusties to 12-2-0 overall.
After a relatively slow start in the first period,
Brooke Power got the Gusties on the board, converting on the power play with a diving goal for her ninth of the season. The goal gave the team a 1-0 lead after the first, but they were soon met with the Auggies Kennedy Stein to start the second, who evened the score 1-1 for the only goal of the second period.
The second intermission gave the Gusties all the momentum they needed, as Olson scored the eventual game-winner 8:11 into the third. Olson found a loose puck in front of the Auggie net and sent a shot directly past Auggie goalie Chloe Stockinger. Holland added an insurance goal just a few minutes later, taking a feed from
Hannah Gray and
Sophia Coltvet for the 3-1 final.
Katie McCoy posted 17 saves in the victory, while Stockinger made 19 for the Auggies.
Kaitlyn Holland finished with the team-lead in points, assisting Power's tally and scoring one of her own for two points on the day. Power led the way with four shots on goal, while Holland,
Lindsay Berggren, and
Sophia Coltvet added three on net.
The Gusties head up to Minneapolis tomorrow for a 4 p.m. puck drop against the Auggies.
