BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – A pair of Gustavus student-athletes earned MIAC Athlete of the Week honors on Monday, Dec. 2, as Emma Kniefel (5th, Medford, Minn.) and Morgan Kelly (Sr., Saint Peter, Minn.) swept the women's basketball awards.

Kniefel led the Gustavus women's basketball offense to a 78-72 victory over Colorado College on Nov. 25, earning MIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. After starting the game down eight points on meager 4-for-19 first quarter shooting, Kniefel hit a buzzer beater three-pointer at the end of the quarter to get the team back on track. She finished the game with a team-high 21 points on 8-for-17 shooting from the field. She hit three three-pointers to contribute to 13 total for the team, a new season-high and two shy of the program single game record. She added a trio of rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a block, and drew four fouls.

This is the second MIAC weekly honor of Kniefel's career, as she was named Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 19 of last season. Kniefel was selected to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week on Nov. 19 of this year after leading the Gusties through their first three victories.

Kelly also contributed a complete game on both ends of the court against the Tigers to earn the nod at Defensive Player of the Week. Kelly, in her first start of the season, started off slow, missing her first three shots of the game, but went 77.8% from the field for the rest of the game. She led the Gusties with a team-high seven rebounds, collected a solo block, and drew a foul. She posted 17 points in the game, scoring three three-pointers as well. This is Kelly's first weekly honor from the MIAC in her career.

The Gusties enter conference play on Dec. 4 against Augsburg (1-3 overall) at Gus Young Court. The MIAC opener will be the first game in a five-game home-stand for Gustavus, featuring a match-up against league rival Concordia (3-2 overall) Saturday and the conclusion of the team's non-conference schedule.
