Lily Mortenson Named MIAC Offensive Player of the Week

12/2/2024 1:00:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Lily Mortenson (Jr., Champlin, Minn.) was named the MIAC Women's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday, Dec. 2.

Mortenson led the Gusties in a nationally-ranked loss against then-No. 13/14 UW-Eau Claire on Nov. 26. Mortenson scored the first goal of the game just 2:31 into play, her team-leading fifth, on a breakaway for an early Gustie lead. After the Blugolds tallied four unanswered, Mortenson scored one more with just one second left on the clock to bookend the game. It was her first multi-goal game of the season, third multi-point, and sixth with at least one point, extending her season-opening streak. She also led the Gusties with five shots on goal.

Mortenson's six goals this season are tied for second in the MIAC, just one behind St. Catherine's Ana Meyers and sharing the spot with Saint Benedict's Camryn Hargreaves. Her nine points are also second in the league, one behind Hamline's Nikki Olund. Her 1.50 points per game this season is conference-leading and eighth in the nation, while her even 1.00 goals per game is the third-best mark in NCAA Division III.

The Gusties jump back into conference play this week, facing No. 8/9 Augsburg (5-0-1, 4-0-0 MIAC) in Minneapolis on Dec. 6 before hosting the Auggies at Don Roberts Ice Rink the following day.
