KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced the 2023-24 Division III All-District Teams and District Coaches of the Year, and Gustavus junior
Spencer Swanson earned All-District 9 Second Team honors. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division III.
Swanson posted a record season for the Gusties, leading the team to its first MIAC Playoff Championship since 2005. Starting in all 29 of the team's games, Swanson averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.4 blocks, and 37.4 minutes per game. The junior earned his second consecutive All-MIAC honor this season, was named to the MIAC All-Playoff team, and was one of only two players in the conference to be named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week. Swanson was the only player in the league to rank in the top-five of scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and minutes. The Waconia native became the 34th member of the program's elite 1,000 point club this season, and is the first player to eclipse 1k career points in five years. Swanson shot 54.7 percent from the field this season, and 47.7 from three, and finished the season ranked fourth in the nation for minutes per game. Swanson's 550 points this season are sixth all-time in the Gustie program records, tied with D.L. Smith who scored 550 in the 1957-58 season. His 214 field goals are tied for fifth and 260 rebounds seventh in program season records.
Swanson was joined on the All-District 9 Team by fellow MIAC competitor Luke Harris of Carleton. The two were the only representatives from the MIAC to receive the honor. Â
