3/13/2024 12:00:00 PM

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its Division III awards for the 2023-24 season on Wednesday and Gustavus is represented by Head Coach Laurie Kelly and senior guard Syd Hauger. Kelly was named one of 12 finalists for the WBCA NCAA Division III Coach of the Year, while Hauger was named All-America honorable mention.

Kelly, the only coach from the MIAC and one of two from the region to be named a finalist for WBCA Coach of the Year, directed the Gusties to a 25-3 overall record this season while claiming the MIAC regular season championship for the second consecutive season and the MIAC playoff title for the third straight year. Kelly coached a MIAC record five All-Conference players this season, including the MIAC Defensive Player of the Year (Emma Kniefel), and an All-America honorable mention (Hauger).

Hauger earns All-America honorable mention after capturing her first All-Conference award. Hauger led the team with a 64.2 field goal percentage, which would rank third in Division III if she met the qualifying standard of at least five made per game. She had a team-high 51.1 three-point percentage (23-45), which would rank first in the county if she met the qualifying standard of at least two made per game. Hauger's 11.4 points per game were second most on the team. She also averaged 4.0 rebounds per game, was second on the team with 59 steals, and had 51 assists.

The WBCA NCAA Division III Coach of the Year, Player of the Year and Coaches' All-America team are selected by the WBCA NCAA Division III Awards Committee from coaches and student-athletes who are nominated by WBCA member coaches.
