SAINT PETER, Minn. — After 18 games on the road, the Gustavus softball team returned home, giving fans a treat at the Gustie Softball Field with a MIAC opening sweep over Concordia. The Gusties won game one convincingly, 12-4 in six innings, before clinching the sweep with a 2-1 victory in game two.

The Gusties opened game one firing on all cylinders, as
Madi Mueller led the team off with a triple through the right side to open the first inning. A single from
Olivia Guggenberger scored Mueller, before a 2-RBI double from
Carly Olson scored both Guggenberger and
Caitlin Olafsson, who singled through the left side in her first at-bat.
Macy McNally brought in the fourth run of the inning on a single to second, giving the Gusties a 4-0 lead after one.
Gustavus tacked on four more in the second, once again led by Mueller, who doubled to left center to start the inning. A Cobber error scored Mueller, while Olson added another RBI double, this time scoring
Kayla Herda.
Lauren Lambert brought Olson home with a single to left center to double the Gustie lead, 8-0.
Concordia got two back in the top of the third, scoring on a double to left center and a Gustie error at second base. The Cobbers cut the lead to five in the fourth, scoring on a double to left field for an 8-3 score.
Lambert added another RBI to her name in the fourth, scoring Herda on a single to left. Concordia put up what turned out to be their final run of the game in the top of the fifth, scoring on an RBI single to left field.
Herda scored Mueller in the fifth for the Gusties' 10th run, before Mueller called the game in the sixth inning.
Peyton Stevermer singled up the middle to score
Greta Dahlen, while a fielder's choice for Mueller brought in the 12th and final run for the Gusties, scoring Lambert.
Mueller nearly hit for the cycle in game one, going 3-for-5 with a single, double, and triple, three runs, and an RBI. Olson also tallied a trio of hits at the plate, in addition to three RBI.
Maizie Anderson picked up the win in the circle, pitching four innings, allowing three runs off three hits and striking out four.
Megan Sherwood closed the win out with two innings pitched, allowing one run off three hits.
Gustavus 2, Concordia 1
After a high-scoring game one, the pitchers stole the show in game two, led by Gustie first-year
Ava Hamsund, who pitched a seven-inning two-hitter to earn the victory in the circle. Single runs in the second and third were all the Gusties needed to complete the sweep.
Greta Dahlen got the home team on the board first in the second, as a ground out to first scored
Caitlin Olafsson, who singled to lead the inning off. Concordia evened the score in the top of the third with an RBI single up the middle.
Madi Mueller tallied the game-winning run, scoring on a Guggenberger single to left center after getting on base with a single to right field.
Mueller, Guggenberger, Olafsson, and Olson accounted for all four of the Gusties' hits in the second game. Hamsund earned her third win of the year, striking out three batters in the process.
The Gusties, now 8-12, are back on the road for three consecutive MIAC doubleheaders, heading to Hamline first on Saturday.
