5/26/2024 9:58:00 PM

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Gustavus men's tennis student-athletes Marco Siviero, Gage Gohl, and Tyler Haddorff all captured All-America honors Sunday with first round victories at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.

Siviero defeated John Falke of NC Wesleyan in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, in the first round of the singles draw to reach All-America status. In the round of 32, Siviero won his first set 6-2 over Aiden Drover-Mattinen of RPI, but dropped the last two sets 6-4, 6-1.

"The guys put together a great first day today," said Head Coach Tommy Valentini. "Marco was fantastic in the singles. He played an extremely high level throughout. In his first match, he handled the big moments so well and served and returned beautifully. To get over the line in the first one was fantastic for him - he certainly earned the All-American status with a great performance. In his second match he played a flawless first set and a half. Full marks to his opponent from RPI. He raised his level at the end of the second and played an elite third. We're so proud of Marco - he played two top quality three-set matches against the best in the nation."

Gohl and Haddorff won a third set breaker 7-5 over Utham Koduri and Michael Melnikov of Swarthmore to secure their first round victory and All-America status in the doubles draw. Gohl and Haddorff will now face Rishi Shankar and Peter Leese of Mary Washington at 4 p.m. Monday in the round of 16.

"The doubles match was a special one," Valentini said. "Gage and Tyler competed beautifully, trusted each other and our plan. There were so many ups and downs all day, and we're proud they embraced the moment against an excellent team from Swarthmore. It certainly could've gone either way and the line between winning and losing was razor thin. We're thankful for the result and to have enjoyed a great match in this atmosphere. We'll look to recover and to get prepared for another one tomorrow."
