SARTELL, Minn. – The Gustavus women's golf team opened up competition at the Saint Benedict Invitational at Blackberry Ridge Saturday and Sunday, taking sixth in a mostly MIAC field. St. Catherine won the event, taking first with a 615. Bethel finished third with a 629, while the St. Catherine "B" team finished third. The Gusties carded a two-round 692 as a team.
Riley Zebroski led the Gusties, taking 19th overall with a two round 78-85-163. Zebroski shot a 78 in round one with a pair of birdies. Fellow sophomore
Maren Masters was next, taking 39th overall with a 87-88-175.
Lauren Hubbart finished 41st, one shot over Masters with a 176, with
Kenna Henriksen taking 46th (91-90-178) in her first collegiate invite.
Emily Kolb rounded out the Gustie top five in 59th, putting together a 94-91-185.
Three Gusties competed as individuals, led by
Jenna Piepkorn who took 36th with a 174.
Mary Kate Hewitt finished 51st, while
Josie Raiche was 66th.
"We had a better game plan today," said Head Coach
Scott Moe. "We still gave up a lot around the greens, and we've got some work to do ahead of the Eau Claire tournament this weekend. With the start of classes on Tuesday, we will be back to a normal routine and are looking forward to that. The women are excited to defend our title at Eau Claire."
The women will compete in the UW-Eau Claire Invitational at Wild Ridge and Eau Claire Country Club next Saturday and Sunday.
