NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women's golf team competed in the opening day of the Northfield Open, hosted by Carleton College and St. Olaf College at Willinger's Golf Club. The Gusties stand in third place out of the seven competing teams after shooting +39 in first round of the two-day tournament.

Carleton College leads the field at +13. St. Catherine stands as the runner-up at +35 on day one.

"Playing at Willinger's has always been a challenge for us," said Gustavus Head Coach Scott Moe. "There's a lot of trouble on that golf course and some of those holes played pretty long. I felt like we managed the golf course better today than we have in the past."

Addison Longie led Gustavus on day one, shooting +5 to tie for third overall out of the field of 44 golfers. Riley Zebroski followed at +6, placing seventh.

Teckla Wahlstrand, competing for the Gusties' B team, had the next best Gustavus score at +11.

Emily Kolb and Layla Mathews shot +13 for the A and B teams, respectively. Jenna Peipkorn was next at +14 for the B team.

Josie Raiche and Lauren Hubbart both shot +15 for the fourth counted score for the primary Gustie team to round out their +39 score for the round.

"Good scores today by Riley and Addy," said Coach Moe. "Tomorrow, we move over to Legacy in Fairbault and look forward to celebrating our seniors during our final round of competition this year."

Up next for Gustavus is the second and final day of the Northfield Open, set to tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 26.
