SAINT PETER, Minn. - Fueled by three power plays goals and a stout defensive effort Saturday, the Gustavus men's hockey team got back to its winning ways with a 5-0 shutout over Northland at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The Gusties, who have completed their non-conference slate of games, improve to 11-6 overall.Â
Drew Holt scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 7:36 mark of the first period, assisted by
Artem Korolev, and the Gusties held the one-goal advantage into the first intermission.
Korolev and Holt switched roles 3:29 into the second period for a power play score by Korolev, with
Nate Stone also getting credit for an assist.
Hunter Newhouse connected with
Jack Suchy for a score at the 8:10 mark and two minutes later,
Nick Blood scored a power play goal - the first of his career - with the help of
Jack Wineman, and the Gusties led 4-0 after 40 minutes.Â
Blood scored his second power play goal of the game midway through the third, assisted by
Jack Kubitz and Stone, and the score remained 5-0 for a final.Â
The Gusties went 3-for-7 on the man-advantage and killed all four Northland power plays. The Gusties out-shot the Lumberjacks 35-11 as
Zach Dosan made all 11 saves for his second win of the season.Â
Gustavus will enjoy next weekend off before returning to MIAC play Jan. 31-Feb. 1 against Bethel.Â
