STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The men of Gustavus swim & dive remained undefeated on the season, taking first of six teams at the two-day UW-Stevens Point Invite on Jan. 24 and 25.
The Gusties totaled 1128.5 points to win the meet, followed by the host Pointers in second with 925, UW-La Crosse (791.5), Hamline (160), and UW-Eau Claire and Lawrence (Wis.) with 52 and 25 points, respectively, after only competing in diving over the weekend.
Peyton Richardson (5th, Crystal Lake, Ill.) picked up the only win on Saturday, taking first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.22. Teammate
Jacob Robischon (Fy., Sauk Centre, Minn.) finished behind Richardson in fourth with a 55.19.
Both relay teams took second overall, as the 200 medley squad of
Logan Cyr (So., Maple Grove, Minn.),
Nyden Hill (Sr., Conway, Ark.),
Logan Braley (Jr., Elk River, Minn.), and Richardson touched the wall in 1:37.18. The Gustie B team also scored points with a fifth place finish. In the 400 freestyle relay,
Braden Ripken (So., Blaine, Minn.), Richardson, Braley, and Cyr posted a time of 3:11.96, while the B and C relay groups finished fourth and fifth to add more points to the team total
In the 400 IM, Cyr (4:22.27),
Ben Kell (So., Minneapolis, Minn.), and Robischon finished second through fourth, while Kell was also second in the 200 backstroke (2:00.68)
Ripken was the top Gustie in the 100 breaststroke, taking third overall with a 59.92. Teammates Hill and
Brandon Wilcek (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) were fourth and fifth in the event, respectively.
Matthew Lillejord (So., Naples, Fla.) took fifth in the 200 freestyle, bettering his preliminary time from earlier in the day by a second. Ripken added a fifth place finish in the 50 freestyle (22.05), as well.
On the boards,
Ryan Lester (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) finished fifth with a 361.15 on his 3-meter dive, followed by teammate
Trevor Johnson (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.), who took 11th with a 245.85.
The Gusties travel to Collegeville next weekend for a dual meet with Saint John's. The Johnnies have dropped just one dual all season, a 180.5-115.5 decision to Division II St. Cloud State. Competition begins Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Warner Palaestra Pool.
