NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties men's hockey team battled the St. Olaf College Oles on the road Saturday night, falling 2-1.
All three goals were scored within four minutes and 23 seconds of each other midway through the first period.
The Oles capitalized on a power play opportunity to score the first goal of the game 10 minutes into the opening frame.
Ludvig Mellgren tied the game for Gustavus just two minutes later with his first goal of the season.
Artem Korolev assisted on the equalizer.
Two minutes later in the 14
th minute of the first period, St. Olaf scored what would end up being the game winner.
The Gusties had three power play opportunities in the game but went 0-for-3. The Oles scored on their lone power play.
Gustavus won 40 of the 65 faceoffs against St. Olaf.
Mellgren led the Gusties with five shots in the game.
Marko Belak made 32 saves in goal for Gustavus.
Up next for the Gusties is a return to Saint Peter for a two-game home series against the Concordia College Cobbers starting Friday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m.
