DE PERE, Wis. – The No. 5 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's hockey team battled the No. 6 St. Norbert College Green Knights on the road Saturday afternoon in the second of a two-game season-opening series for the Gusties. The Gusties fell 2-1 in overtime to the Green Knights, splitting the two-game series after their victory in Friday's opener.
Eva Nelson scored the first goal of the game, capitalizing on a power play opportunity to put Gustavus up 1-0 in the 13
th minute of the first period.
Kayleigh Olson assisted Nelson on the goal.
St. Norbert went on to tie the game with a goal just 23 seconds later, evening the score at 1-1.
After those two quick back-to-back goals, the game remained deadlocked through the end of regulation to force overtime. With less than 32 seconds remaining in the overtime period, the Green Knights managed to find the back of the net to defeat the Gusties, 2-1.
Lily Timmons had 17 saves for Gustavus in goal.
The Gusties outshot the Green Knights 34-19 in the game.
Up next for the Gusties is two-game series against the St. Olaf College Oles, with the first game taking place in Northfield on Friday, November 7 at 6:00 p.m.
