SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's hockey team battled the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons at home Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest. The Gusties defeated the Falcons 3-2 to secure the two-game series sweep and improve to their winning streak to four games.
After a scoreless first period,
Sam Rice put the Gusties up 1-0 halfway through the second frame with a goal assisted by
Emil Samuelsson.
Gustavus doubled their lead four and a half minutes later as
Charlie Sandven scored on a power play to put the Gusties up 2-0.
Grant Ellings and
Hunter Newhouse assisted on the goal.
The Falcons cut the Gustavus lead in half in the closing minutes of the second period, scoring an even strength goal to pull within one down 2-1.
Concordia Wisconsin tied the game midway through the third period, but Samuelsson retook the lead for the Gusties three minutes later with a game-winning goal assisted by Rice and
Jack Anderson.
Colin Androlewicz had 22 saves in goal for Gustavus.
Up next for the Gusties is a two-game home series against the University of Dubuque Spartans starting Friday, January 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Don Roberts Ice Rink.
