Women’s Swim & Dive Holds at First Through Day Three of MIAC Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus women's swimming team held its lead at the top of the conference standings after day three of the MIAC Championships on Friday, Feb. 21. 

Geneva Fackler (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.) claimed her second meet title of the weekend, and second in as many days, and the Gusties emerged victorious in the 200 freestyle relay to hold a 32 point lead over second place Macalester. 

Marit Isaacson (Sr., St. Paul) led the individual finals off with a second place finish in the 400 IM for All-MIAC honors, touching the wall in 4:34.22 behind St. Olaf's Paige Steenbloc, who claimed the title with an NCAA B cut and 2024 NCAA invite time of 4:27.67. Sommer Krause (Fy., Farmington, Minn.) took eighth in the final with a 4:48.88, while Felicia Symreng (So., Stockholm, Sweden) finished 14th (4:56.32). 

First-year Linnea Reinsmoen (Doha, Qatar) collected a fifth place finish in the 100 butterfly finals to lead the Gusties, while Madison Witte (So., Glencoe, Minn.) took 13th overall with a time of 1:00.35.

Three Gusties competed in the 200 freestyle final, led by Fackler who claimed her second individual victory in as many days with a time of 1:53.85, two seconds ahead of her own prelim time and the next swimmer in the pool. Stella Anderson Moye (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) finished fourth with a 1:57.47, while Caitlyn Otto (Fy., Saint Peter, Minn.) was the third Gustie in the event, taking fifth overall in 1:57.78. 

Both Lindsay Sundby (Jr., Randolph, Minn.) and Hadley Wartner (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) competed in the 100 breaststroke final, with Sundby finishing fourth with a time of 1:07.59, while Wartner took eighth (1:08.54). Sydney Prowse (Sr., Beloit, Wis.) took 12th in the event in 1:09.16.

First-years Katelyn Siers (St. Cloud, Minn.) and Eloise Cooper (Stevens Point, Wis.) led the Gusties in the 100 backstroke, as Siers finished in 57.03 and Cooper in 58.66 for third and sixth, respectively. Mikayla Witte (Sr., Glencoe, Minn.) took eighth with a time of 59.77, while Kendall Coppersmith (So., Rogers, Minn.) and Teresa Gatti (Fy., St. Paul, Minn.) added 10th and 11th place finishes to score points for their team as well. 

The team of Siers, Fackler, Anderson Moye, and Isaacson claimed the 200 freestyle relay title with a time of 1:35.48, edging second place Macalester by .33 of a second. 

With just one day remaining in the conference meet, the Gusties are 32 points ahead of Macalester with 460 to the Scots' 428. St. Olaf sits in third (370.5), followed by Carleton's 321.5 and St. Catherine's 288 in fifth. 

The final day of competition starts with prelims at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, featuring 1-meter diving, the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 1650 freestyle. The finals session will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the meet will wrap with the 400 freestyle relay.
